Welcome to Grant Park
Grant Park is the only neighborhood in Atlanta where you will find twin Giant Panda cubs, lions, tigers, and bears -oh my! In addition to being the home of Zoo Atlanta, Grant Park also is home to:
- Oakland Cemetery, the final resting place of
- Gone With The Wind author Margaret Mitchell
- Golfing legend Bobby Jones
- Many other notable Atlantans including mayors, governors, and Civil War dead.
- The second-oldest house in Atlanta -the 1858 mansion of Lemuel P. Grant, after whom the park and neighborhood are named (and today serves as the headquarters of the Atlanta Preservation Center).
Grant Park is one of Atlanta's oldest and most important historic districts and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is bordered on the north by Cabbagetown, on the east by Ormewood Park on the east, on the southeast by Boulevard Heights, on the south by Chosewood Park, and on the west by Summerhill and Peoplestown.
Grant Park and Inman Park together encompass the largest remaining area of Victorian architecture in the City of Atlanta. Most residences were built in 1882 when the neighborhood was established or in the early part of the 20th century. These large, two-story mansions face the namesake park, while more modest, two-story, Queen Anne style homes were built on nearby streets, and one-story, Victorian era cottages, and Craftsman bungalows were built on the east side of the 100+ acre park.
Charming, historic homes, a park crisscrossed with walking and running trails, a world-class zoo, easy access to the city, and an active community make Grant Park an appealing neighborhood to call home.
Music, art, and food.
