Welcome to East Lake
Site of the PGA's annual Tour Championship and home to the East Lake Golf Club, East Lake is situated on the east side of downtown Atlanta. It is the easternmost neighborhood in the City of Atlanta. A perfect mix of urban and suburban, East Lake is not only home to busy professionals who commute six miles into the city or head for the airport. You’ll also find young families who enjoy the family-oriented, historic community with its 1910 to 1940’s bungalows and cottages and new construction. Add to the mix the playground and recreation center, ball fields, and trails, (don’t forget about the golf -there’s a public course too!), along with its local shops, restaurants, and cafes, close proximity to transit, and you have a can’t-miss neighborhood with broad appeal.
One of Atlanta's most historic neighborhoods, East Lake’s origins are found in a 19th-century plantation (with the original home still standing across the street from today’s East Lake Golf Club), to an actual lake. Like so many of Atlanta’s popular neighborhoods, before 1900 there was a streetcar line with regular service to the area.
Over the years, East Lake went through several transitions until in 1995, major redevelopment, with the East Lake Golf Club and the East Lake Foundation at its center, reimagined East Lake into the highly desirable, diverse community it is today.
