Welcome to Avondale Estates

Founded in 1924 and named after Stratford-Upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Avondale Estates is less than ten miles east of Atlanta. It is bordered by Decatur, Belvedere Park, Scottdale, Clarkston, Pine Lake, and Stone Mountain. Avondale Estates is known for its Tudor-style homes (don’t worry, there is modern architecture to spare), diverse culture, and local arts scene.

Generations of families have made Avondale Estates their home. It’s not uncommon to find parents on one end of a street, the next generation a little further down the road. Home lots tend to be larger than those in other Atlanta neighborhoods despite the small size of the community (1.24 sq. miles). Avondale Estates operates several local parks including Willis Park and Avondale Park as well as other community favorites such as the Avondale Estates Historic District and Avondale Lake.

In addition to public and private schools, Avondale Estates features The Museum School, a charter school that brings a museum concept of discovery and exploration to learning that is locally controlled and highly regarded. Admission is through lottery.

Avondale Estates is devoted to its festivals. Amongst several presented in the community throughout the year: In late spring, Art-B-Que is a fan favorite followed later in the year by AutumnFest -two annual outdoor celebrations that draw in residents and visitors with music, art, and food.
